Chaim and Chaya Lazar’s Journey to Expose the Truth about the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
Scholars still debate over who started the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and why the Jewish undergrounds were unable to unite. This book follows the footsteps of Holocaust survivors Chaim and Chaya Lazar—who were the first to realize the creation of a distorted narrative—then devoted their lives to correcting historical misrepresentations.
In the Lazars’ journey, one of their greatest achievements was exposing the key part the Jewish Military Union, ŻZW, related to the right-wing Betar movement, played in the Uprising. Due to political rivalries, this forgotten organization and its heroes were disregarded for many years by historical accounts. The Lazars relentlessly collected testimonies and evidence—then published their findings. Their discoveries shed immense light on the brave battle which helped ignite the resistance in Warsaw and gave names to its forgotten leaders.
This book, written by their daughter and granddaughter, is based on diaries, letters, oral accounts, and historical research. It is dedicated to Chaim and Chaya Lazar’s determination, fervor, courage… and their blessed memory.

More about the book:
Who started the Uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto? Who were Pawel Frenkel and Lev Rodal? And why did the Jewish undergrounds not able to unite even under those horrible circumstances?
These questions and more are still not fully solved 80 years later and scholars are still debating and trying to find more clues.
This book follows the footsteps of Chaim and Chaya Lazar, Holocaust survivors of the Vilna Ghetto, who were the first to realize that a distorted narrative had been created and devoted their lives to correcting certain historical misrepresentations concerning the role of the Revisionists and Betar movement members in the resistance against the Nazis.
One of their achievements which stands in the focus of this book, was the exposure of the central part played by the Jewish Military Union, ŻZW, in the uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto. This forgotten organization was disregarded and denied for many years by the mainstream narrative of the uprising, due to political rivalries.
The Lazars set up for this journey all by themselves, with hardly any support, even from the Herut party in Israel and its leader Menachem Begin who was the head of Betar in Warsaw till the war broke and left the city upon its occupation.
The mission they Lazars took upon themselves was to expose the forgotten heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and shed light on their brave battle which ignited the resistance in Warsaw and had been suppressed by others.
They relentlessly collected testimonies and evidence, wrote, published and lectured about their findings, while constantly struggling against the stream till their last breath.
No one who has written or still wishes to write about the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising could ignore their pioneer work.
This book, written by their daughter Sarah Ozacky Lazar and granddaughter Daniela Ozacky Stern, is based on their diaries, letters and oral accounts, in addition to their historical research. It is dedicated to Chaim and Chaya Lazar’s determination, devotion and courage, and to their blessed memory.
